After the Research Paper

In researching and writing this paper, I learned a lot about teacher tenure and its implications. I learned that it is really expensive to fire a teacher and few schools attempt it. I learned that some tenure reforms are already taking place, which was reassuring. Teacher evaluation systems are being implemented into schools to propel efficiency in the classroom. It also made me better appreciate those who chose to go into the teaching field.

One thing that really shocked me was how many people have had to put up with a bad teacher when they were growing up. It's more common than I realized so I'm glad I chose to write about something relevant. Tenure reform would impact the majority of the U.S. population.

Something that worked well for this assignment was interviewing someone who knew more about the subject than me. Another thing was discussing the subject openly with those around me.

If I had to do it over, I would get my research done earlier because that is the most time-consuming part. Because I had not yet chosen a stance on teacher tenure, I had to spend a lot of time reading and understanding the issues surrounding tenure. At first, I began to think tenure was a necessary protection for teachers, but as I continued to research, I realized that it has its problems and other solutions would do more good for the public-school system.

My goal with advanced writing is to continue to do good research when I am trying to understand a subject. If I'm not well informed, no one will take my opinion seriously. It's important to consider the issue from different perspectives.

As I get ready to begin the collaborative project, I hope to strengthen my skills in invoking pathos because I feel that is the one that really thrives with visuals. I'm excited to choose a subject I'm interested in and delve into its greatest aspects to powerfully persuade.
